DESCRIPTION
The Elipson Legacy 3220 is the smaller of the two floor-stander speakers in the Legacy range. The design is based on the innovative developments of the past 60 years of the company’s history, taking ideas from models such as the La Religieuse speaker, the 4050 model and the 1303 model, and combining those with the superior materials and designs of today.
The Legacy 3220 speaker pair is loaded with two 6½” mid-bass ceramic-coated aluminium drivers, these drivers are perfectly matched, lightweight, rigid and capable of moving air efficiently. A large voice coil that is driven by a powerful neodymium magnet is also featured, for intense and responsive lows.
Wide-dispersion Air Motion Transformer (AMT) tweeters provide the high frequencies. They have multiple folds along the entire length to increase contact area with the air, plus to provide a higher velocity at the reproduced frequencies. By pinching the air in between its folds, the speed of the expelled air is significantly improved, which improves the transient response.
The 3220 cabinet is made of 25mm thick MDF, covered with a wood veneer with internal supports to strengthen the speaker and combat resonance. The side panels are not parallel and the front and rear edges are rounded so the circulation of the sound waves behind the drivers is improved.
The Legacy 3220 combines it’s two ceramic-coated aluminium drivers with a bass-reflex enclosure with a circular down-firing port to extend low frequency response. To achieve maximum bass response the 3220 speakers need a minimum amount of space between the speaker and the rear wall.
Elipson’s Legacy 3220 pair come with black, circular, fabric, speaker grilles that attach to the driver units by a magnet system, if you wish to cover them up. They also come with 4 decoupling spikes and 4 counter-spikes, per speaker, for maximum stability.
